81 VW Rabbit 1.6l diesel picked up in Olympia, WA

This past weekend I had an engine and some parts to pick up in Tacoma, WA and it turns out a friend in Olympia had a diesel Rabbit that he's been trying to figure out how to get down to me for some repairs since the fall so this was a no-brainer: I drove up with an empty tow dolly and then I picked up the car on my return trip. The van tows this sort of load without trouble and I can easily cruise on the flat at 65mph. On hills I have to back out of it a little bit paying careful attention to the EGT gauge.  Mileage AVG according to scan gauge: 25.3mpg.

Today I finally got around to installing some of the parts I brought back from Germany with me.  These headlights are a really nice upgrade and the rear smoked taillights and front fogs complete the package.  I've got some smoked side markers that I was thinking about installing but not sure I want to cut holes in the fenders for that so am sitting on them for now.
