Trip report: Corvallis, OR to Whidbey Island, WA 36.2 MPG

No connection to these folks, just really liked this headstone.
Due to an untimely death of a family friend, my family and I made an unexpected trip up to Whidbey Island this weekend to be there in support of our friends.  We took my 93 EV w/AHU TDI and achieved very impressive mileage despite pushing the speed limit to make time and hitting traffic in both Portland and Seattle.

In line at the ferry queue in Clinton, WA.

Here are the specs, loaded with 2 adults, 2 children and misc. gear:

Outbound trip
Corvallis to Portland (before we spent 30mins in stop-n-go traffic): 40.2 MPG  ~70 MPH
Corvallis to Olympia: 38.2  MPG  70-75 MPH
Olympia to Port Townsend: 34.6  MPG  50-55 MPH
Whidbey Island mixed city driving:  MPG not recorded

Shortly after hitting traffic in PDX I snapped this shot, sadly watching my MPGs plummet in the stop and go traffic ;-(.

Continuing to watch the mileage drop in PDX rush hour traffic....

Return trip to Corvallis
Edmonds, WA to Corvallis, OR 35.9 MPG
Average speed 70-75mph.

Combined HWY mileage for entire trip was 36.2 MPG, with a combined tank AVG for the entire trip of 34.4.  Not too shabby for a family of four doing 70MPH in a comfy VW camper!!
